Legendary Hollywood icon and Sundance founder Robert Redford is in talks to play a senior S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in the upcoming ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier.’
As first broken by Deadline, Redford’s role is as yet not clearly defined, as the actor hasn’t finalized a deal to appear in the film.
Hats off to Marvel and Disney for again making savvy moves that continue to broaden their audience and increase buzz by including big name talent into their superhero films. Redford doesn’t take on acting projects very often anymore, but with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige describing the sequel as a ‘political thriller’ Redford’s certainly got the filmography to fit right in.
In the Seventies, films such as ‘Three Days of the Condor’ and ‘All the President’s Men’ set the tone for what espionage and conspiracy thrillers are known for today.
In other news, Paramount Pictures has released a new trailer for the Brad Pitt zombie apocalypse thriller, ‘World War Z,’ based on the bestselling novel by Max Brooks. Plagued by reshoots and production delays, this adaptation of Brooks’ novel features Pitt as a U.N. employee frantically searching the world for a cure to stop a zombie pandemic.
Re-shoots are never a good sign, especially when combined with production delays and rewrites. Regardless of those facts, the trailer has a grand scope and epic feel to it. And with Pitt producing the film, I believe that we’ll be in for an interesting ride come June 21st.
Ever wonder what the IRS does with your tax money? They make movies! Or, Star Trek-inspired training videos. Reportedly made with $60,000 of taxpayer money, this ‘homage’ to Star Trek and taxes left me speechless. But, since we paid for it; we might as well have a look at it.
