‘Thor’ movie news: on May 26, Marvel’s official website for ‘Thor: The Dark World’ went live. The site has links for various sections including: video clips, a synopsis of the new story, an image gallery, and downloads for wallpapers and icons.
The new film stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Idris Elba, and Rene Russo reprising their roles from the first ‘Thor’ film from 2011.
In ‘The Dark World’, Thor’s home realm of Asgard is threatened by an ancient enemy who is older than the universe itself. The evil Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) targets not only Earth and Asgard for destruction, but Jane Foster (Portman), Thor’s love. Things get personal and Thor must enlist the help of his brother Loki (Hiddleston) who must work together to save Asgard and Earth from destruction.
The original film was a surprisingly good entry in the Marvel Universe, with Thor not being one of Marvel’s most obviously popular comic book heroes. Added to that was a director largely known for his work with Shakespearean material in Kenneth Branagh…but it worked.
‘Thor’ was entertaining and introduced us to the fantastical realm of Asgard. The film also gave a backstory for one of the main “Avengers” and introduced his brother Loki, whose jealousy and narcissism would lead him to attempt to destroy Earth in ‘The Avengers.’
The live website for ‘The Dark World’ hosts a teaser trailer and animated gifs in addition to wallpapers and photos from the upcoming film.
Director Alan Taylor (HBO’s Game of Thrones) steps in for Kenneth Branagh for ‘Thor: The Dark World’ which will be released in the U.S. on November 8, 2013.
