A ‘Super’ sequel is in the works for the ‘Man of Steel.’ The film, which opens Friday June 14, has apparently already spawned a sequel, with director Zack Snyder and screenwriter David S. Goyer back on board.
Writer David S. Goyer may have first come to comic fan’s attention with the screenplay for the Wesley Snipes film ‘Blade’ in 1998. After a succession of high profile screenplays, including each of Christopher Nolan’s ‘Batman’ films, Goyer has firmly established himself as the “go-to” scribe for DC Comics superheroes on screen.
Unconfirmed rumors state that Goyer was signed to a three-movie deal at Warner Bros. when he was chosen for ‘Man of Steel,’ including the sequel and a ‘Justice League’ movie.
In an interview with Bleeding Cool, Goyer hints at how ‘Man of Steel’ might be the catalyst for a long-rumored ‘Justice League’ movie that would rival Marvel’s superhero dream team from ‘The Avengers.’
In the interview June 13 with Brendon Connelly of Bleeding Cool, Goyer states that, “The idea is that Superman is the first one. There might be people helping people, but not in costumes, and that Superman comes forward and announces himself to the world. In him announcing himself, he’s the one that changes things.”
Speculation on which DC Comics characters would be involved in a ‘Justice League’ movie is tricky. ‘Batman’ would be an obviously popular choice, a “sure thing” if there is one. The DC universe is also home to ‘The Flash,’ ‘Green Lantern,’ ‘Wonder Woman,’ and ‘Aquaman,’ among other comic book heroes.
A sequel to ‘Man of Steel’ is a given. The film is projected to make somewhere near $100 million just in its opening weekend.(Source: Boxoffice.com)
Whether or not director Zack Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan will be directly involved is unconfirmed. A report from June 10 claims that it’s “official” that Snyder will return to direct with Goyer writing the sequel’s screenplay. (Source: Deadline)
