No ‘Justice League’ movie anytime soon according to ‘Man of Steel’ star Henry Cavill.
In a recent interview with ABC news, the star of ‘Man of Steel’ acknowledged the rumors of a ‘Justice League’ film as a “great thing to do, but I don’t think it’s around the corner.” (Source: Variety.com June 25)
‘Man of Steel’ writer and director David S. Goyer and Zack Snyder, respectively, have not confirmed that a superhero movie to rival the success of Marvel’s ‘The Avengers’ is in the works, either.
For Marvel fans, you surely remember that ‘The Avengers’ was a culmination of several “stand-alone” superhero characters, which DC Comics has not yet done with it’s vast catalog of characters.
The ‘Green Lantern’ flop from 2011 which starred Ryan Reynolds, failed to make back it’s production budget during it’s domestic theatrical release. The film failed to connect with movie audiences, earning about 57% of the approximately $200 million dollar production budget.
Characters ‘Green Lantern,’ ‘Wonder Woman,’ ‘The Flash,’ and ‘Aquaman’ are some of DC Comics most popular characters and having their origin stories introduced (if DC followed the Marvel model) would take time to develop and lead into a ‘Justice League’ movie.
Cavill echoed this in the ABC News interview, “It has to be done delicately with a lot of thought.” The new big-screen ‘Superman’ added, “It may take some time of building up other movies and other characters…” On a positive note, Cavill believes that “Justice League could be great if done correctly.”
Give Flixnerd your thoughts on which characters from the DC Universe would make up a formidably entertaining ‘Justice League.’
With ‘Batman’ and ‘Superman’ the obvious inclusions, which other characters would you like to see in solo films and later as part of the ‘Justice League’ team of comic crime fighters?
