Aquaman joining the ‘Man of Steel’ sequel, Indiana Jones stops over in Boise, and one of the best films of 2014 (or any year, for that matter) makes it’s debut on DVD today.
‘Grand Budapest Hotel’ drops on DVD June 17. Wes Anderson’s latest stars Jude Law, F Murray Abraham, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, and a truly brilliant performance by Ralph Fiennes.
‘Grand Budapest Hotel’ is a brilliantly comic gem of a film. Not since perhaps ‘The Princess Bride’ has a movie so whimsical, intelligent, and quotable graced movie screens. For our Flixnerd Review of ‘Grand Budapest Hotel,’ click here.
On June 16, via multiple media outlets, it was announced that ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Conan’star Jason Momoa would be joining the cast of Zach Snyder’s ‘Man of Steel’ sequel, ‘Batman v Superman:Dawn of Justice.’
Hyphenated title shenanigans aside (enough already!), this latest cast addition gives the Head Nerd here some anxiety about the direction of Snyder’s “Super Sequel.”
If you’re keeping score, ‘Dawn of Justice’ will feature Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Alfred the butler (Jeremy Irons), Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and now Momoa as Aquaman/Arthur Curry.
The last time that a DC Comics movie from Warner Bros has this level of stunt casting involved it didn’t go very well for fans. Does anyone not love to forget Clooney, Thurman, Schwarzenegger, et. al in the so-bad-it’s-bad ‘Batman and Robin’?
Granted, that film had other problems, but in an effort to out-Avenger the Avengers sequel, might DC and Warner Bros be rushing a pot to boil? Only time and fan reaction will tell.
Last, but not least…Indiana Jones is returning to Boise!
Boise Classic Movies is bringing Indy back for a one night showing of the 1981 Spielbergclassic ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark.’ Still the best of the bunch, ‘ROTLA’ was my first visceral movie experience. It helped to shape a lot of my tastes in film.
Mr. and Mrs. Head Nerd (my parents-I wasn’t designed in a lab, you know?) took me to see this action adventure thirty years ago. I am very excited, okay Super-Stoked, to return the favor tomorrow night at The Egyptian Theater in downtown Boise.
Tickets are nearly sold out. Grab your fedora and get yourself down to The Egyptian. Costumes are encouraged-so is quoting lines from a classic movie in a classic theater.
