“Blood Father,” the trailer for the new exploitation thriller starring Mel Gibson dropped today. The film’s synopsis and trailer play right into the heart of what we do here at Flixnerd.com.
And while I’m at it, let’s consider giving the film’s star a break, huh?
Gibson proved himself over the years by being not only an action star (The Lethal Weapon series of films) but by also being a savvy and talented director (Man Without a Face, Braveheart, The Passion of the Christ, and Apocalypto.)
Can we forgive his personal struggles, at some point, to recognize the talents of the artist instead of focusing on his personal missteps?
Woody Allen…still lauded by critics. Roman Polanski, the same also goes. Underage canoodling and worse is forgiven, yet a person with different personal demons is still widely vilified and ostracized by both audiences and critics/industry people alike.
I admire Mel Gibson’s body of work. ‘Edge of Darkness,’ ‘Man Without a Face,’ and ‘Payback’ are genre solids that should be celebrated.
‘Mad Max’ himself should hold a grudge for this long. ‘Blood Father’ looks awesome, is right up Flixnerd.com‘s alley, and I can’t wait to see this revenge-fueled exploitation style actioner when it drops sometime in August in the U.S.
People fuck up. Famous people do, too. Rich and famous doesn’t mean I want them over for Thanksgiving dinner or date my daughter. (Okay, I don’t have a daughter…but if I did I’d keep her away from any guy and every guy anyway.)
Check out the trailer. Take it for what it is intended to be…a dirty little grindhouse-style revenge flick.
If you don’t love my mini-rant on this…that’s unfortunate but cool. Give Mel a break. He’s still a big deal and should be recognized for his cinematic achievements, Flixnerds.
Disagree? “Go boil an egg.”
